Diana Ross & the Supremes

About the Artist

Diana Ross & the Supremes Diana Ross & the Supremes (1967–1970 billing) marked the peak era of Motown’s premier girl group, with Diana Ross (born 1944) as lead alongside Mary Wilson (1940–2021) and Cindy Birdsong (replacing Florence Ballard in 1967).

Hits from this period included “Love Child” (No. 1, 1968), “I’m Livin’ in Shame,” “Someday We’ll Be Together” (No. 1, 1969), and “Reflections.” Their glamorous image, tight harmonies, and crossover appeal solidified Motown’s global dominance. Ross departed in 1970 for a solo career (hits like “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough,” “Upside Down,” films Lady Sings the Blues and Mahogany).

The Supremes continued variably until 1977. As of 2026, Diana Ross (81) actively tours with her “Diana in Motion – 2026 US Tour,” including dates like Nashville’s Grand Ole Opry House (March 15), Orlando’s Dr. Phillips Center (March 18), and more through spring. She remains a living legend with recent Vegas residencies and performances. Mary Wilson passed in 2021; Birdsong is alive but retired. Inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (1988) as The Supremes, the Ross-led era defined 1960s empowerment, elegance, and Motown magic.
