Herb Alpert (born 1935) Herb Alpert, born in Los Angeles, is an American trumpeter, songwriter, and producer whose Tijuana Brass sound blended Latin, jazz, and pop in the 1960s. Co-founding A&M Records (with Jerry Moss), he scored massive instrumental hits: “The Lonely Bull” (1962), “A Taste of Honey,” “Spanish Flea,” “Whipped Cream” (Dating Game theme), and “This Guy’s in Love with You” (No. 1 vocal, 1968). The Tijuana Brass sold over 72 million records, with Whipped Cream & Other Delights (1965) a cultural icon. Alpert’s bright trumpet and mariachi flair defined easy-listening crossover. He continued producing (Janet Jackson, etc.) and art/philanthropy. As of 2026 (age 91), Alpert actively tours with a reformed Tijuana Brass, celebrating Whipped Cream’s 60th with sold-out 2026 dates (e.g., Tilles Center March 25, College Street Music Hall March 26, and more announced). His joyful, melodic trumpet work remains a timeless staple of instrumental pop
